Bedroom Makeover

Ok here is some truth for all of you! I wanted to pull my hair out with this makeover. Nothing seemed to go fast enough and turn out the way I was envisioning. First off this room is also where my son sleeps so to paint it took forever on top of repainting some furniture!!! I couldn't rely on nap time to get the job done! The hardest stage was the bedding. You see I can't just go to the store and pick everything I love and add some nice pillows and decor. I have to work with what I have or make it. I usually love making pillows but this time around it was not working for me. I even decided to make a duet cover and shams........ and during this process the house was turned upside down thanks to my son and I ended up in tears calling my mom. She is such a miracle in my life (check her out at www.rebecaroman.com)She made me realize the importance of keeping it real and thankful. So I wiped my tears and got back up and did the best I could. I just wanted it to be perfect but life isn't perfect and it's about finding beauty in imperfections. I had to remind myself of a lot of things in this make over but most of all that I have a home that is healthy and a son that is full of life and that makes this home shine!

Living Room Update

I decided to take up the all of the living room space and put the dining room table back in with the playroom. I am not done with the playroom dining room combo but I enjoy this set up much more. All I ended up doing is moved the furniture around and added in a few plants and decorative items. Here is what the end result looks like.

New Playroom

This post has taken me all weekend to write! The family is under the weather and thus my pictures aren't the best but the new playroom has made me so happy I had to share it right away. You see I wanted to paint the walls in the playroom for the church before we move because they were in really bad shape. They need repairs in some spots but I have no idea how to and have no money to! I mixed my own paint again and made a lovely grey color but once I got it up on the walls it was blue:(

So I spent forever trying to figure out what to do because nothing matched and I don't have money for new paint. The only solution was to embrace it. I have been very influenced by many inspirational woman who decorate with so much passion but I seem to compare myself too much. I love color and find it hard to find others who love it as much as I do. I have really been enjoyed reading Gina's blog at  www.theshabbycreekcottage.com because she embraces color and is not afraid. Another great woman who has shown me the importance of color is my mom Rebeca Roman. You can find her amazing work at www.rebecaroman.com. So I want to really try to stop comparing myself to others and embrace the beauty I see in things that make me happy.

For the before playroom go to this post http://betsahouse.blogspot.com/2015/01/playroom-makeover.html. Let me know what you think. Many thanks for supporting me and giving me the encouragement to be brave.

Living Room Makeover

I have been waiting to show you all my living room makeover for sometime! So what a better day to show you than on St. Patrick's Day! With all of the snow storms that happened lately getting my projects done for the living room was nearly impossible. I am so excited to show you I couldn't wait for the sun shine and wasn't very patience taking photos so my apologizes. You will find my son hiding in many of them. Ok so here are a few pictures of the before.

Before

This living room space has a lot of challenges to deal with. One being there is only one location that I could put the TV because of where they placed the outlets for all the chords. I would NEVER cover the windows! I love and I mean love natural lighting. Right when I get up I open all the curtains and in the summer open all the windows. So I hate that I have to put the TV in front of a window but sometimes when you rent you have to deal with stuff and work around it. This might not seem like a challenge but the floors are slanted causing problems with some of the furniture. I have never had a bench window and in the summer it was nice we actually used it as a part of our dining room seating but in the winter they act like ice cubes. Hence this is why you will see that I have heavy rugs on them for now. Heating vents in older homes can cause an issue, they are randomly placed so making sure they are not blocked is important. I painted the living room a very very soft grey nothing too crazy because we are renting. But I like light walls and vibrant accents.

This is our dining area. We had a huge table that wasn't ours so I brought in this round one and surprisingly I like it better. I wish I had a round rug to use and I would use nothing but I love to be barefoot and love carpet on my feet. Everything thing you see I have gotten on clearance no JOKE! From the plates to the baskets to the chairs I love reduced prices!! I wait until Target changes out their seasonal decor and everything is like %60 off!

My husband knows me well! When the Christmas clearance was happening he bought me these HOPE letters that were attached to lights. They used to be $25 and he got them for $7.  I took them off of the lights so they would lay flat and attached them to two pieces of ply wood.

One day I walk into Target and found this amazing red shelf on clearance but I mean super clearance. They used to be $150 and I got they for $30 dollars my friends. The deal was so great I got two of them, one for my kitchen since space can be so limiting. The wooden clock was another steal. I believe it used to be $60 and I got it for $14. The best of all is I wanted new pillows and I LOVE bright colors! The bigger pillows used to be $40 and I got them for $10!

Tell me what you think!

Playroom Makeover

Today is the worst storm we have had all year and what better way to celebrate by putting together a playroom. I have been wanting to change our dining room back to a playroom for some time now. With the holidays over I wanted a playroom back and space for a little office for myself. Playrooms are great if you have the space and if they are located in a spot that is convenient to everything else. Before this my son's toys were everywhere and I tried my best to blend it in with the rest of the house decor. I still keep some goodies in every room so he can entertain himself while I try to get things done around the house. I wanted to have an office area to get some work during the day and at the same time keep my eye on him. I know there are is a lot of advice out there on playrooms but I think you know your child best and what they love. If you highlight the things they love doing their playroom will be a success. I think storage was the biggest problem for us. Storage that is easily accessible is so important so they can freely get what intrigues them at any moment.  Another factor I played with is color. Our playroom before had bright colors and a lot of decorations all over the wall. I wanted something more simple this time and I think I don't feel so overwhelmed this way too. Let me know what you think and if this change was a good one.
Thanks- bets

First Playroom

I have decided to bring back the playroom. As of right now I turned it back into our dining room but I am about to change it back. It's just silly to me that we need such a big room to eat in, plus we don't put on huge dinner parties! A playroom is a room that is so practical if you have the room for it. Right now we have his toys scattered in different parts of the living room. We spend so much time at home that creating an environment for him to play and have fun in would make me so happy. So this is the old play room and I am redoing the playroom so stay tuned in the weeks to come!
