DIY Table

So this table like many projects has caused me to go crazy and feel defeated but you can't win them all. I like how the table turned out but it didn't go with my chairs and the color of the living room. I even ended up changing the color in the end but it didn't work out either. I took it from the garbage because I wanted a long table for Thanksgiving but I went back to my round table and now I continue to look for another. So here is my process in redoing this table.

These are the steps I followed:

1. Spray painted the edges and legs with a dark grey color.
2. Taped off the edges and got some white primer paint.
3. Took a cheap paint brush with a a thin bristles from the dollar store and painted a thin layer of the primer.
4. Took a deep brown stain and painted over the primer and repeated the steps over again to create layers.
5. Taped lines with blue painter's tape. I didn't measure just eyeballed it. 
6. Spray painted over the lines and created drops with the spray can trying my best to make it look like wood work.

Night Stand Makeover

After a long summer of seeing family and going to the beach I finally got home and got back to my many projects. It was a beautiful summer full of laughs, love, and relaxing fellowship. So one of the projects I wanted to redo was my night stand that I took apart and ended up creating more storage.

Here are the steps I followed:

1. I spray painted the top and bottom a dark blue color.
2. I used super cheap tape to make two thin white lines for arrows I was trying to create.
3. I free handed the ends of the arrows with a brush and white paint.
4. I painted the inside of the night stand white.
5. The door that was on the night stand I converted into a shelf.
6. Lastly I spray painted a clear finish to protect the piece.

Living Room Makeover

I have been waiting to show you all my living room makeover for sometime! So what a better day to show you than on St. Patrick's Day! With all of the snow storms that happened lately getting my projects done for the living room was nearly impossible. I am so excited to show you I couldn't wait for the sun shine and wasn't very patience taking photos so my apologizes. You will find my son hiding in many of them. Ok so here are a few pictures of the before.

Before

 This living room space has a lot of challenges to deal with. One being there is only one location that I could put the TV because of where they placed the outlets for all the chords. I would NEVER cover the windows! I love and I mean love natural lighting. Right when I get up I open all the curtains and in the summer open all the windows. So I hate that I have to put the TV in front of a window but sometimes when you rent you have to deal with stuff and work around it. This might not seem like a challenge but the floors are slanted causing problems with some of the furniture. I have never had a bench window and in the summer it was nice we actually used it as a part of our dining room seating but in the winter they act like ice cubes. Hence this is why you will see that I have heavy rugs on them for now. Heating vents in older homes can cause an issue, they are randomly placed so making sure they are not blocked is important. I painted the living room a very very soft grey nothing too crazy because we are renting. But I like light walls and vibrant accents.

This is our dining area. We had a huge table that wasn't ours so I brought in this round one and surprisingly I like it better. I wish I had a round rug to use and I would use nothing but I love to be barefoot and love carpet on my feet. Everything thing you see I have gotten on clearance no JOKE! From the plates to the baskets to the chairs I love reduced prices!! I wait until Target changes out their seasonal decor and everything is like %60 off!

My husband knows me well! When the Christmas clearance was happening he bought me these HOPE letters that were attached to lights. They used to be $25 and he got them for $7.  I took them off of the lights so they would lay flat and attached them to two pieces of ply wood.

One day I walk into Target and found this amazing red shelf on clearance but I mean super clearance. They used to be $150 and I got they for $30 dollars my friends. The deal was so great I got two of them, one for my kitchen since space can be so limiting. The wooden clock was another steal. I believe it used to be $60 and I got it for $14. The best of all is I wanted new pillows and I LOVE bright colors! The bigger pillows used to be $40 and I got them for $10!

China Cabinet Makeover

I have so much joy to write this post because this maybe one of my favorite makeovers! I received new knobs from my mom at Christmas and I couldn't wait to use them and this is what they looked like.

 I purchased this old China cabinet for $10.00 and it was so worth every penny! 

Before

I decided that I didn't want to keep the top on because it had some issues but loved the bottom just the same! 

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Sanded the whole thing very well, the paint I was using had primer in it but I always like to give everything a light sanding. 
2. I love the detailing at the bottom of the cabinet and always try to highlight detail in some way.
3. I painted it and let it dry a bit and then with a wet cloth I removed some of the paint. (view in the pictures below)
4. I used a Shur-Line foam roller- Ultra Smooth Surfaces to paint on the top and the drawers. I didn't want brush strokes for this project but a more even surface look.
5. The paint I used was Olympic light green.
6. To finish I put on the knobs.

Mini Stool Makeover

I haven't had much time lately due to shoveling all this snow! Trying to keep warm and keep my busy two year old happy. I have had a bit of time to do some small projects. I found this cute little stool in our basement and decided to make it over to put it in the playroom.

Before

Here are the steps I followed:

1. I took all the staples out from the bottom of the cushion. A pair of pliers really comes in handy!
2. Took off the old fabric and took some extra fabric I had from the curtains in the playroom. I always find that having extra fabric to do side projects is always great.
3. Then before stapling the fabric I painted the bottom of the stool.
4. To finish I stapled fabric to the bottom of the chair. Having a heavy duty stapler is essential in DIY's of various kinds so invest in one!

Desk Chair Makeover

Happy Saturday to you all! I have one more makeover for the playroom. This time it's a chair for my office. I found this up in the attic and all I did was recover it. If you ever take anything apart make sure to label and put screws in a safe place. Once you take something apart you can better see how it works or was put together. This chair was super easy to redo. I just unscrewed the bottom and top and covered it with some thick fabric I had in blue. Anything that is going to get a lot of use needs to have a durable fabric as I have learned the hard way! Once to deal with the fabric you can alter the rest of the chair however you choose. I personally like the metal look so I kept it but it would have been easily changed. Let me know what you think!

Nursery Dresser DIY

Nursery room furniture can be so expensive! With our little one on the way and the fact I would be quitting my job I had to think outside the box. This dresser has had a lot of use through out the years. It was my dads in high school and then it was mine pretty much since I was eight. Through my high school years I painted it horrible teal and red colors but unfortunately I don't have those pictures. But it's last color was all brown. So this piece had no where to go but up! 

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Sanded it best I could (Since this piece of furniture had many paint layers on it a good sanding will prevent it from peeling.)
2. Spray painted the knobs silver.
3. Painted the whole dresser white then let dry.
4. Taped the whole dresser vertical spacing evenly, minus the drawers.
5. Again this paint color is my own mixture but added yellow to white until I liked it.
